Residents of Porter County can deposit organic yard waste at either of two compost sites free of charge. Finished compost and mulch are also available for public use. Residents are welcome to bring their own shovels to load free compost/mulch.
Sites accept organic yard waste, leaves, garden clippings, garden and household plants, etc. They will also accept brush, limbs, logs and firewood.
- Plastic bags and other such containers must be removed from site by residents.
- Grass is accepted at the Boone Grove site ONLY.
- No treated wood or lumber of any kind are accepted at any site.
- If inclement weather occurs, please call the District office to see if the sites are operational.
- Sites are now open for the season. Please refer to the info below for hours of operations.
Start of Season: April 19 End of Season: December 4
Valparaiso Site: 2150 W. Lincolnway Hwy 130 - 1 mile west of intersection with Joliet
Off Season Hours(before April 19): Sat 9am -2pm Regular Season Hours: Mon-Fri 9am - 5pm, Sat 9am - 4pm

All sites will be closed for the holidays on the following dates:
- May 29-31 Memorial Day
- July 3 Independence Day
- Sept.4-6 Labor Day
- Nov 25-27 Thanksgiving
