Our Mission

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District of Porter County is an agency dedicated to improving the environment and quality of life for Porter County residents by providing convenient, voluntary waste reduction services. The District works to promote environmental stewardship among individuals and businesses through education programs, waste reduction services and other outreach programs to meet the statutory and waste reduction goals set by the State of Indiana.

Our Name

The Recycling and Waste Reduction District was formerly known as the Porter County Solid Waste District. The name was changed to better represent District services. The Porter County Solid Waste District was created by House Enrollment Act 1240, which defined a plan to reduce the amount of solid waste destined for landfills by 50% by the year 2001. In its attempt to meet these reduction goals, the District has established many services to benefit both the environment and the residents of Porter County.
